3/8/2006 (during the day)
it was about 9PM and i was in this Godforsaken giordano's (looked like a wendy's--with all that glass, you could see the lightning storm going on outside) in i don't know what town. bizarrely, i ran into my aunt eileen there. i sort of invited myself to join her and this guy she was with at dinner. the guy was not her boyfriend; he looked like a really bland michael ian black and wore a green argyle sweater. i didn't figure out for a few minutes that they were on a blind date. i awkwardly made up an excuse to leave, and went to do so, but it turned out that the blind date was really terrible and she actually wanted me to stay, to help bail her out. it was too late, though--the excuse had become true due to my having said it out loud. i had to go meet nick. as i walked to the exit i passed a table of aged, dejected-looking british punk rockers.
i walked down the street--a relatively deserted stretch of state st, it turned out--looking for nick. it was very cold and rainy and all i had on were jeans, a t-shirt and a light trench coat. i passed an ATM, which reminded me that i should probably withdraw some cash for whatever nick and i were going to do. i withdrew thousands of dollars in cash--totally unnecessary, but i wouldn't have to withdraw again for years. just after the cash came out and i was about to end the transaction, there was a tap on my shoulder.
it was nick. we kissed and began to talk about plans for the evening. we'd been talking for a while when i thought to pick up all the cash and my ATM card and put them in my pocket.
but i looked and it was all gone. i saw the british rock band running away with it. i knew they'd been out of work. i should have seen it coming.
